New toy on order

Postby kyreb on Fri Dec 07, 2007 10:08 am

Greetings and Merry Christmas to all you blasters out there!

I am making the leap to a 9mm 1911 for IDPA. I have always been a big fan of SA so that is the route I am going. Plan on just getting a trigger job done and then running with this model as is.

Now I must admit, I am feeling like Ralphie in the bb gun movie, can't wait to get my hands on it. (on second thought....Wonder if I can fit a compass in the stocks?) :D

The SA sales department quoted 60-90 days. My FFL says the distributors are not that optomistic. Anybody out there have any recent experience on ordering one of these? If so, how long did it take? How do you like it? What mags are you running? Metalforms?

I looked for one for quite a while with no luck. I was going to ask you where you ordered it. I saw a photo of a SS Loaded in 40 S&W and I'd like to have one of those too, but they aren't even in production.

When you get it, I think you'll love it. I've read a lot of good range reports on various boards.

Metalforum mags. are probably the most convenient way to go, if you want 9mm mags. I know some folks are using 38 Supers without any problems. From what I've read, some guns run file with them while others don't. When it comes in, try to borrow some 38 Super mags and see if it runs. If so, it's usually easier to get 38 Super mags, but they have been in short supply for a few months now.

You might consider posting this on TexasCHLforum.com. I think you'd get more responses. 1911forum.com would be another good place to post.
