Speedloaders

Postby Charles L. Cotton on Mon Aug 15, 2005 2:46 pm

I think I'm going to shoot a revolver a bit in SSR. What type of speedloaders are people using? I have a few with the knob you twist, but Safariland has the type with a plunger-type of operation on the Comp III. The plunger lever is much longer and I'm not sure if they are IDPA legal.

Any experience and/or opinions?

Thanks,
Chas.

Donna uses the Comp III when she shoots a revolver and I use the Comp I. Both are IDPA legal. If you want to get some revolver shooting, come up and shoot one of the ICORE matches held on the 4th sunday of each month at Thunder. They are great.

I've never shot an ICORE match. Are they similar to IDPA rules?

Is the Comp I spring loaded like the Comp III?

The Comp I are spring loaded, they are just much shorter. They still work very well though and are easy to use. I ordered them from Brownell's.

ICORE is more IPSC than IDPA and they use the NRA "tombstone" target. Information can be found at http://www.icore.org.

I use the Comp II when I shoot my Colt Python in our ICORE matches at Thunder. I think the only differences in the I II & III is the height of the speed loader & which pistols they will fit. The II is the only of the 3 which is offerd for my Colt. I also have the HKS twist type Charles mentioned.

I enjoy the revolver and might get better at reloading if I where to shoot it more often. But the 1 time a month is just about enough revolver fun for me. That being said, I find the two types of reloaders about equal in overall performace for an occasional revolver shooter.

ICORE Match is this Sunday at 10:00 am. Not sure what Dale has in store but I know it will be fun. Since it is so close to the nationals, I'll be shooting my Steyr and loading it down to 6 in every magazine. Makes for great reloading practice.

For the next couple months my saturdays (and even most wens) are locked up. Would it be ok to come to the ICORE match on sunday and run my 1911 with mags downloaded to 6 to get some match trigger time in?

Jeremae, We have not been holding ICORE matches lately due to lack of interest. We still have the practices on Sunday and you are welcome to join us for them.
