You do carry one, don't you? Well, let's shoot 'um and talk about 'um!

I know that we all have ideas on what consitiutes a back-up gun, but there still is some confusion. For you clubs that hold BUG matches, how do you define it?

Is it your "carry gun"?
Is it a compact version of your carry or comptition gun?
Is it a true back-up? That is, a gun designed to be carried as a second gun?

What are your thoughts?

At a Cross Timbers BUG match, we follow the BUG definition that's in the IDPA rule book. Of course, there are some big pistols that technically fit into the BUG category, a Glock 19 for example. We frown on using a gun the size of a 19 for a BUG match though and that shooter will be harassed mercilessly about his/her gaminess.

Thanks Gary, I have noticed the same thing regarding the IDPA rule book. One of the reasons for me submitting the topic was to see if there is a common definition out there that may make sense in the next rule change.
